Audio Equipment Review By: Kevin Tellekamp
response to the editor of Ultimate Audio Lars on Fredell's
review
Just a short note to not only compliment you on the continued
evolution of UA (a Positive one I might add!) but also to
thank you and Lars Fredell for the inclusion of my company
in the Spring '99 issue. The "capsule" that LF did
was very much appreciated, and for the most part VERY accurate.
I would like to clarify two things. The term "open-celled
foam" is a word that I Sometimes use to describe the
changes that take place within my isolation units (isoBASE)
when they "read vibration." This is NOT the same
open-cell foam that one thinks of when they hear [the term]
open-celled foam. It's really not a foam at all; the word
is used as a descriptive.
There is a flexibility with the LAMM M1.1 and LAMM ML2 of
5 lbs. but only because of where the weight falls or how it's
dispersed along the footprint of the amplifier. The units
I produce are built with a specific piece of equipment in
mind, [in terms of] size, weight and how the weight is dispersed
(just some of the ingredients that go into the building of
the stands). The only true way to reap maximum rewards in
the world of isolation is through "component specific
build." Anything else just gets you close!
In closing, my thanks to Lars in doing a great job taking
"information I did not/or could not provide" (government
confidentiality agreements) and making sense of it all. I
am a bad interview.
Thanks!
