Dear Audio Enthusiast,
Several months ago Lars Fredell & I started working on
our Absolute Phase Chart, enclosed. We originally intended
it as a giveaway item to our distributors and industry
friends here and abroad. This is still the case, but with
the passing of Lars it’s also become a tribute to his
search for truth in musical reproduction. This memorial
printing will be limited to 58 copies, which was Lars’s
age at the time of his death.

Last summer we were saddened to hear of the death of Lars
Fredell, who was a reviewer at Fi and Ultimate Audio.
Lars was a good friend of Kevin Tellekamp, president of
Silent Running Audio, who often corresponded with him
about every aspect of the audio industry and the music
that they both enjoyed. One interest that they shared
was the topic of phase of particular recordings, and those
recordings that they discovered that were out of phase.
Over the years, Lars and Kevin compiled a list of out-of-phase
recordings and found that more often than not, CDs from
a particular recording company were either in phase or
out of phase. From their list, they decided to create
an Absolute Phase Guide that cataloged those record companies
whose recordings exhibited absolute phase and those that
inverted the phase. They completed it just days before
Lars died, and as a tribute to Lars, Kevin decided to
make 58 (which was Lars' age at the time of his death)
high-quality framed prints available to friends and industry
associates. An Adobe Acrobat version of the chart is also
